Ingredients:

For the Scones:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons baking powder

1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup buttermilk

2-3 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

Preparing the Scones:

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Combine dry ingredients:In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. Cut in butter:Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Add blueberries and sugar:Gently stir in blueberries and sugar.

5. Combine wet ingredients:In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract.

6. Combine wet and dry ingredients:Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

7. Shape the scones:Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick circle. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out scones.

8. Place on baking sheet:Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.

9. Bake:Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Tips:

For a richer flavor, use frozen blueberries and let them thaw slightly before adding to the dough.

For extra sweetness, add a tablespoon of sugar to the buttermilk mixture.

For a more rustic look, tear the dough into large chunks instead of using a cookie cutter.
